Boral Muffler Installation.
For the muffler swap, there is no need to jack the car, and only one tool,
and a little bit of muscle should be needed:
- Curb wheels
- Turn off car
- Put in park or 1st or R gear
- Set Emergency break
- abscond with 15mm deep socket wrench
- lay on ground behind neon, orient primary hand (left or right)
on driver side
- loosen single bolt on neon muffler clamp (do not remove, just
loosen it a good bit, the clamp is a part of the muffler and
does not come off)
- pull off rubber hanger (no bolts/screws) on passenger side of
muffler - you can pry this off and pull on the muffler to help,
there is plenty of play, pulling these hangars requires
practice, and persistence, once experienced, the next time you
do it it'll be a snap.
- pull off rubber hanger on driver side of muffler
- wiggle off muffler (do not drop on ground, or fingers)
- reverse above to install new muffler
- Note, new clamp is conventional type and has two nuts (!), do
not overtighten! Don't want to crimp the pipes together too
well.
Done! You should be able to do this with little fuss. You might have a
friend with a nice tool box (full of tools) help out.
