Here is the procedure I use when pulling the engine out of my ACR 4-door.

Procedure for pulling the Neon SOHC motor

  1. Drain trans
  2. Pull halfshafts
  3. Pull battery and tray (don't forget to disconnect battery temp sensor from tray)
  4. Drain and pull radiator with hoses and fan attached
  5. Remove airbox, bracket, and tube to throttle body
  6. Unbolt catalyst from exhaust manifold
  7. Remove coolant overflow bottle
  8. Disconnect rear O2 sensor near alternator shield
  9. Unbolt ground strap from valve cover
  10. Unbolt power steering reservoir from head (do not undo power steering lines)
  11. Unbolt power steering pump from bracket and lay it back behind the RF strut tower (do not undo power steering lines)
  12. Disconnect back up light on trans and ground strap
  13. Separate harness at 60 way connector (unbolt bracket too)
  14. Disconnect battery cable from starter
  15. Unhook clutch cable
  16. Unhook shifter cables from trans and trans bracket (don't loose the clips)
  17. Disconnect heater hoses from lines above trans
  18. Disconnect throttle cable from throttle body and bracket
  19. Unbolt power hop damper at crossmember
  20. Remove front motor mount through bolt
  21. Support right side of motor with a jack
  22. Remove right side mount with purge solenoid
  23. Hook chain at mount through bolt
  24. Let motor down so through bolt is sitting on the rail
  25. Support trans with jack
  26. Remove through bolt at trans mount
  27. Hook chain to one of the trans mount bolts (not through bolt)
  28. Hook chain to engine lift
  29. Remove jack
  30. Rotate engine assembly clockwise so trans mount clears bracket
  31. Have someone hold hood vertical
  32. Pull it out.
Notes:
Takes me about 3 hours alone
Cheap plastic 2.2L clutch alignment tool from Murray's works on the Neon motor
Make sure you use the Mopar fluid specific for the Neon trans (about 2.5 qts.)
